Black tea is one of the most popular beverages all over the world. Although there are a lot of tea types, black tea has the highest consumption ratio. The production sequence of black tea begins with 45 minutes of a curling process for disintegrating fresh tea leaves after 16-20 hours of withering, it continues with 135 minutes of fermentation within a 27°C, 95% humidity and finishes with the drying process. Abstract

This paper proposes a hybrid methodology for combining forecasts to (stochastic) time series referred to as Wavelet Linear Combination (WLC) SARIMA-ANN with Multiple Stages. Firstly, the wavelet decomposition of level p is performed, generating (approximations of the) p+1 wavelet components (WCs). Then, the WCs are individually modeled by means of a Box and Jenkins model and an artificial neural network in order to capture, respectively, plausible linear and non-linear structures of auto-dependence for, then, being linearly combined, providing hybrid forecasts for each one. Finally, all of them are linearly combined by the WLC of forecasts (to be defined). For evaluating, it was used the Box and Jenkins (BJ) models, artificial neural networks (ANN), and its traditional Linear Combination (LC1) of forecasts; and ANN integrated with the wavelet decomposition (ANN-WAVELET), BJ model integrated with the wavelet decomposition (BJ-WAVELET), and its conventional Linear Combination (LC2) of forecasts. All predictive methods applied to the monthly time series of average flow of the Itaipu plant, located in Foz do Iguaçu, Brazil. In all analysis, the proposed hybrid methodology has provided higher predictive performance than the other ones. ..

The purpose of this study was to develop a mobile-phone electrocardiography (ECG) detection kit and ECG cloud management system to establish reference waveforms of cardiac activity, which is one of the most essential fields in preventive medicine. This paper presents a mobile phone detection kit that uses a Bluetooth transceiver module to obtain real-time ECG data, and which archives and transmits the data to a cloud database. This novel system possesses the following advantages: low cost, ultralow-power wireless transmission, light weight, and small volume, and contains an algorithm for comparing waveforms. In addition, the system contains a function that can provide the results to families or the physician using phone calls or text messages. The results exhibited highly similar outcomes, and this system enables personal operation and real-time recording and monitoring of ECG signals. ......

Abstract

An interactive mathematical methodology for time series prediction that integrates wavelet de-noising and decomposition with an Artificial Neural Network (ANN) method is put forward here. In this methodology, the underlying time series is initially decomposed into trend and noise components by a wavelet de-noising method. Both trend and noise components are then further decomposed by a wavelet decomposition algorithm generating Wavelet Components (WCs) for each one. Each WC is individually modeled by an ANN method in order to produce both in-sample and out-of-sample (point) forecasts. At each time t, the forecasts of the WCs of the trend and noise components are added to provide in-sample and out-of-sample forecasts of the underlying time series. This methodology, applied to the well-known Canadian lynx time series that, as pointed by [1], exhibit non-linear and non-Gaussian characteristics, is shown to outperform other methods traditionally applied to this data. ...

Abstract

Due to the continued growth in hydrocarbon demand, operators in the oil and gas industry are always looking to drill deeper wells in order to access previously unattainable hydrocarbons. High-Pressure High-Temperature (HPHT) wells are now broadly present in places like the Gulf of Mexico, the North Sea, and the Middle East. At such conditions, the effect of salts on the properties and performance of water-based drilling fluids cannot be reliably extrapolated from moderate conditions. As a result, this research aimed to test and investigate the rheological behavior of various water-based drilling fluids with a variety of different salinities at HPHT conditions using a state-of-the-art HPHT viscometer. The mud was found to start losing its intrinsic properties at 24,000 psi and the concentration of Calcium Chloride was found to have a more profound impact on the rheology than Sodium Chloride. Out of the used rheological models, Herschel-Bulkley had the best fit and could be used to predict the viscosity. ...

This research describes the geotechnical investigations of a rock mass for an optimal slope design. It is directed to determine slope design parameters of the Mimbula pit 2, which is an important satellite pit of the Nchanga open pits. Attention has been drawn to the need to understand the failure mechanisms of slopes on this site and the need to determine acceptable risk of mining at the designed pit slopes. Kinematic and limit equilibrium analysis are looked at in detail and part of numerical analysis pertaining to the Mimbula slope design. The methodology in this research included the collection of information about the local and regional geology, structures, rock mass and the hydrogeology of the investigation area. Field work which comprised geotechnical core logging and mapping was carried out to determine the characteristics of the rock mass.
