Abstract

Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) technique allows the detection of the most enterovirulent Escherichia coli strains: enterotoxigenic (ETEC), enteroinvasive (EIEC), enterohaemorrhagic (EHEC) and enteropathogenic (EPEC). However, PCR efficiency depends on the primer design, target samples and environmental factors. The aim of the present study was therefore to detect enterovirulent strains of E. coli in the four different shrimp farms of Dumuria, Khulna, Bangladesh. Water, sediment and shrimp were examined from each farm. Six pairs of oligonucleotide specific primers were used for the amplification and thereby detection of target genes viz. the alkaline phophatase (phoA), the heat-labile toxin1 (hlt1), heat-labile toxin2 (hlt2), heat-stable toxin1 (hst1), verotoxin (vt) and attachment and effacement (eae) virulence genes....

An investigation was performed to improve the properties of recycled self-compacting concrete (RSCC) using demolitions as a coarse aggregate (crushed red brick and crushed ceramic). Glass fibers were used in RSCC to achieve the purpose of this investigation. Glass fiber volume fraction varied from 0.0 to 0.4% by the volume of concrete with aspect ratio 480, 960 and 1920. The study was based on the hydrological observations developed by analysis of rainfall quantities and their effect on groundwater level rise inside the aquifer. The first hydrologic observation was related to lag-time effect for any rainfall event. Hydrographs of monthly groundwater levels revealed that groundwater level peak usually took place in April except for the very wet year 1991\92 were heavy rain in February and March drifted the peak to June-July.
